Katt Williams & The Meticulous Art of Clout Catching
The funny man known for coloring outside of the lines is doing something else, and I’m not mad at it
Wild outbursts of truth convince many of us that we’re on the brink of a major cultural revolution.
While this may in fact be the case, the truth bombs are often just theater, and we should appreciate the rocket’s red glare for what it is.
The ensuing drama fulfills an emotional hunger that becomes a vice for those who have not aimed themselves at a clear target in life. However the provocative production never really comes close to satiating those sober souls that cleave to intangible realities that bypass the profane banquet of shock and awe.
The Trickster laughs while social media gives us bread and circus. And we are all entertained. Enter a grinning Katt Williams from stage left.
The renegade comedian has been a thorn in the side of would-be controllers in Hollywood who can’t tame him into toeing the line. Katt told us that he blew off Harvey Weinstein’s blow job offer on Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay broadcast. From there, he had our attention for over two hours of unapologetic gossip mixed with life-affirming stories of moral virtue.
We all love a good David versus Goliath story so this angle of Katt taking on underhanded Hollywood gatekeepers adds a wealth of intrigue to the storyline that came together on Club Shay
Shay.
And while Katt said he wasn’t trying to do an interview to promote a project, he didn’t have to, because Sharpe did it for him.
The host briefly highlighted that Katt has a Netflix special lined up entitled Dark Matter this May. Some may say that the program is too far away for the Sharpe interview to qualify as a promo, but it’s brilliantly right on time.
Between now and May A LOT of shocking truths about celebrities are going to come to our awareness. You’ve already seen some of it with P. Diddy and then the release of the Epstein Island logs. All of this will give Katt’s words more cultural gravity once his stand up special premiers in May.
I saw a lot of World Wrestling Federation storyline build ups for pay per views in my youth, so I know a conveniently lucrative story arc when I see one. And while Katt was already paid by Netflix for his coming special, pre-show attention is currency in an Attention Economy.
Katt Williams isn’t clout chasing because he isn’t over exerting himself by whoring his message out to just any media outlet ready to jump on him. Instead, he chose one platform, said what he had to say, and millions of observers are now clamoring for more. They’re going to get it, too.
What we’re seeing here is different from Clout Chasing. It’s Clout Catching, and your valued attention is the big fish on the hook
Brilliant breakdown, my brother. God bless.
