The Crypto Circassians of the Caucus & The Pseudo Science of Race

Our comprehesion of ourselves and our world has been damaged by unscientific concepts of racial identity. They are rooted in the bleached soil of strong feelings and manufactured facts.

Johann Friedrich Blumenbach (1752 - 1840) was a German pseudo-scientist that I was first exposed to through Boogie Down Productions’ 1989 music video for its Ghetto Music: Blueprint of Hip-Hop single, “You Must Learn.”

I consider it one of the greatest hip-hop music videos of all time. Check it out below if you’ve never seen it.

According to Blumenbach’s unscientific classification system for human biology, there are 5 different races on Earth, and they are Caucasian, Malayan, Mongolian, American Indian and Ethiopian. Modern Western anthropologists are still using Blumenbach’s race model for white people by calling whites Caucasian.

According to Blumenbach, “the purest and most beautiful whites were the Circassians” who inhabited the surrounding regions of the Caucus Mountains. Hence today, all whites are called Caucasian.

I became a little more curious about these Circassians, so I started doing research on them. What I initially found were black and white photos from the 1800s showing white women with huge Angela Davis styled, Black Power afros.

Further investigation revealed that most of these white women were actually poor Americans (many were Irish) who joined the circus based on a lack of job opportunities available to women in the US labor force.

These circus women reportedly poured beer all over their hair so that it frizzed up, and traveled the country as fake “Circassian Beauties” making a few coins for themselves and lots of money for their promoters. The “Circassian Beauties” were marketed and sold to the public as virtuous Christian women who had been freed from sexual bondage to lusty Islamic Turks and North African pirates. Here’s a rare history lesson within this history lesson:

Many of us recognize the Salvation Army as a charitable non-profit organization that provides food and clothing to the needy. However when it initially started it was somewhat of a paramilitary organization that fought against White Slavery which mainly involved the prostitution rings of North African Moors and the Ottoman Empire.

Following the Reconquista, Barbary Pirates kidnapped white women from across Europe, especially England, as recently as the 1900s. These Moors are caricaturized in Voltaire's book Candide. The Salvation Army was started by William Booth, a devout Christian Englishman in 1865.

That was the same year that pro-slavery actor John Wilkes Booth assassinated Abraham Lincoln for opening the door for a skilled Black labor force to edge out less skilled whites for jobs following emancipation that year.

I don’t have any concrete proof that the two Booths are directly related but their relationship through the institution of slavery in the same year is an interesting one.

In my continued search to find out more about these Circassians  I came across a lot of commentary on the fake Circassian circus beauties and their made up afros. None of these commentaries made sense, though.

Supposedly the charlatans who ran the Carny circus rings were attempting to objectify these traveling women by presenting them as exotic specimens with erotic appeal. The problem with how this narrative is framed by white researchers is the fact that it doesn’t account for a very simple reality: White America has never equated afros with erotic beauty!

So, if these white women are being sold to the public as “Circassian beauties” WHILE they’re wearing afros it strongly suggests that something true about REAL Circassian culture and genetics is being exaggerated for the sake of sensationalism and entertainment.

As I dug a little further I found the image of the Circassian man below with the Frederick Douglas/Alexander Pushkin styled afro. I bet there’s no Heineken in his hair. I remember being 8 or 9-years-old and seeing pictures of Karl Marx and thinking that he was Frederick Douglas because of his afro and overall appearance. Wasn’t Karl Marx in Germany which had a significant Circassian population? He most certainly was. Keep the Douglas-Marx comparison in the back of your mind as this narrative progresses.

The Avar people reside in the Northern Caucus Mountains of modern-day Russia. They live among multiple subgroups that comprise the entirety of the Circassian population. The Avar have been an Islamic people since at least the 13th century. However, they were already interacting with Muslim merchants since the 10th.

The oldest manuscripts for the Slavonic version of the Ethiopian Book of Enoch date back to the 14th century, which is just a century after the Avar converted to Islam. Eastern Europe likely received the original African Book of Enoch from Moors who were widely known as book traders in medieval times. Those books were never limited to just Islamic studies, though. They included Christian, Judaic, and even scientific texts which explains how Muslims near the Black Sea got undeniable access to a book primarily read by Coptic (East African) Christians. Avar contact with Muslim Ottoman Turks was also frequent since they shared the same religion and didn’t live far from each other.

According to a Cambridge University article entitled Sufism and Politics in the Northern Caucasus, Russia is home to over 14 million Muslims, concentrated in specific regions including Chechnya, Tartarstan (the Tartarians), and Dagestan which has many Sufis within its population.

The Avar style of women’s dress looks very much like what the Amazigh women wear in Morocco and other parts of North Africa. It’s a very distinct style that isn’t common to the Islamic world as a whole. It’s very specific to North African dress. Clearly, African culture travels far and wide because it is essential and vital. People need Africa in their lungs and veins, but this need creates resentment among the Forces of Humanity’s  Winter that embody the frequencies of entropy.

The Russian Empire almost exterminated the entire Circassian population of Russia because they were perceived as culturally at odds and racially inferior to Russians. Consider again, the afros of the fake Circassian Beauties who were being paraded around the U.S. while this genocide was occurring in Russia.

After being subject to ethnic cleansing at the hands of Czarist Russia, thousands of Circassians ran for their lives into other nations including parts of Central Europe like Germany, Czechoslovakia, Poland, Sweden,  and even Turkey and Iran, which is in Western Asia. Europe is really a part of Asia, but it’s identified as a continent onto itself for no other reason than to affirm global white separatism and European transnationalism.

Blumenbach said that the Caucasian is the root race of all humanity before it “degenerated” into the other four races. However the ethnic  group that he places at the foundation of whiteness were killed off en masse by their neighbors for not being white enough.

If the perfect white people (according to Blumenbach’s notions of race) are not white enough, then does whiteness even exist as a scientific reality outside of the white mind and those conditioned to bow to it? It seems like whiteness is constantly struggling to affirm itself in the face of Truth. Why is that? It’s because it’s NOT REAL.

Rachel Dolezal may very well be a descendant of the Circassians from Eastern Europe based on her last name. Many Circassians fled to Germany and Czechoslovakia where her parents are from. What if her “racial confusion” is an expression of her genetic memory that our society has not supported her in contextualizing in a wholistic way.

Many of us give that grace of self exploration to transgender men and women who freely identify as the compliment to the gender they were anatomically born as. Yet we don’t want to entertain the thought that some “white people” don’t spiritually identify with the racial designation they’ve been neatly placed in. We give sacred offerings to the ghost of Blumenbach DESPITE knowing that race, in itself, is an artificial political construct made up by white men who give labels to people, places, and things that they’ve never tried to understand AS THEY ARE. They only see what they project them to be.

Dolezal’s supposed  racial confusion may be one woman’s response to being forced into an identity lock box of whiteness that does not scientifically address the entirety of who she intrinsically is. Her story is a microcosm of the entire human race in this new Color Coded Hierarchy of human life.  We’ve all been reduced to walking, talking, Crayons by a  German white supremacist and fake scientist who lived over 200 years ago.

The only thing that seemed to curb Russia’s insatiable appetite for ethnic destruction from 1790 - 1917 was the meta-racial and meta-ethnic economic philosophy of Karl Marx. Was Marx’ manifesto an effort to engineer a functional society that was friendly to people who looked like him? Probably. The core tenets of Marxism certainly do not arise from the collective psychology of the Anglosphere. For the record, I don’t consider myself a Marxist. However, I must say that the most lucrative products of Capitalism have been racial strife and class conflict. It seems that Marx was acutely aware of this. Money phone niggas should not confuse capitalism with free trade. I love free trade and making money. We all breathe the life affirming vital essence to sustain our lives, and that vital essence is the true Africa that eludes the materialist. Africa is not a landmass designated by European cartographers who make paper maps,  or imaginative geologists who’ve pulled the concept of a “continent” out of thin air.

 I can touch South Africa on a map and then move my index finger up to Chad, into Egypt, the Middle East, Russia and Asia without encountering land that is completely separated by water. Nevertheless, I have to explain to my son what the 7 continents are because some mad man made it up out of his imagination 400 years ago and the world I live in today is too intellectually lazy to question the function behind the archaic innovation. 

By the way, the name “Dolezal” literally means “Lazy Man.” We’re too lazy, man. We’ve refused to explore what Rachel Dolezal was unwittingly teaching us about the fake construct of race.

Africa exists wherever we find creativity, sexual desire, a passion for good  food, psychological resilience, rhythm, intelligence and the drive to simply BE, on the planet.
