Today the U.S. House of Representatives overwhelmingly approved a bill that could effectively ban the use of TikTok in the United States corporation.

U.S. President Biden said that if Congress approves the bill he will sign it into law. Congress is comprised of the House of Representatives and the Senate. If the bill is approved by the Senate then the Chinese C.E.O. and founder of ByteDance—the parent company of TikTok—would be pressured to sell his ownership of the social media platform. If he doesn’t his creation would be banned throughout the U.S., resulting in the loss of over 120 million users.

There is so much more to this than the steady diet of hype that we’ve been fed by the struggle chefs of old media. This isn’t about the U.S. Federal government saving its precious citizens from the prying eyes of an evil Chinese government. That’s bullshit.
