There’s an excellent article about Denzel in Esquire where he tells parts of his own story in his own voice. I saw Gladiator 2 last night. It could have been easy for Denzel to give a cartoonish version of a villain. However, he’s never going out like that. He gave nuance and complexity so that every move his character made was sensible. I loved the nuance you captured in your stack and will read more as I prepare to visit North Africa soon.

The best villains are the ones you can look at and say “I understand why he’s hell bent on vengeance.” We can all relate to having been done wrong. Denzel’s character definitely had some nuance. What country are you visiting?

When I visited Palermo, Italy I was disturbed by my tour guide's distillation of the history and much of the inscriptions at many of the architectural edifice(s) historical landmarks credited the Normans, Arabs and of course Europeans but never credited the Moors nor any other African decent. Can you shed some light on who were the Normans and who are they today?

Would you think this role for Denzel opened the way for his new role in the new upcoming Netflix movie with him as the main protagonist playing Hannibal Barca?

I was thinking he did this film under condition that he could get the Hannibal Barca film. I can’t prove it, but his roles are looking too strategic to be a coincidence. Not to long ago he did Macbeth which is within that Moorish paradigm based on his involvement.
